Rat o Rama

This is the first illustration project this semester with Ben Wilson.  It is an illustration spot that we had to do for an article in the Boise Weekly.  (not actually going in the magazine).  The article was about the bad connotations that rats have (plague, rattail hair, rat pack, etc), and it was for a rat convention that had contests and such.  Some of the contests were fanciest rat, longest tail, etc.

Ryan Woodward "Thought of you"

A friend linked me this video.  it is amazing to say the lease.  I definitely understand some of the motions and the exaggerations of the arms.  like when his arms turn into heavy masses that fall to the floor.  I've been there.

anyway, here is the link

Rompo catches the EasterBunny

I think that this is finished.  Something I don't quite like about it, but im not sure what that is!  There are a lot of things I do like about it, however, and I'm pretty satisfied for it being my first watercolor.  Some adjustments were made in photoshop.  Quite a few actually :P

Christmas dinner invitation

This is a flyer I did for a Ladies church organization
I used actual paper snowflakes that my wife and I cut out for Christmas decorations this year.  I think they worked out really well.

below is the pen sketch that I did at work to get a feel for what I wanted.  I took it into PS and tweaked it quite a lot obviously.

Rompo

A Rompo is a mythological creature from Indian and African areas.  It has a head of a rabbit, legs of a bear, arms of a badger, and ears of a human.  pretty weird.  oh yeah, and they supposedly eat humans nomb nomb.

This is for our (most likely) last project in my illustration class.  we are working with 3 other people, and we had to choose similar animal types and create a childrens book out of it.  we decided on mythological creatures.  we were assigned letters of the alphabet, and then we chose groups.  Our group just happened to get the letters A B F and R.  Which spells out B.A.R.F if you like.  so we will most likely do something along those lines.  more sketches and concepts to come.  I'm pretty excited about this project!

Whatif

A linocut print I did in my Printmaking class.  We had to illustrate our reaction to a poem

Whatif by Shel Silverstein

Last night, while I lay thinking here,
some Whatifs crawled inside my ear
and pranced and partied all night long
and sang their same old Whatif song:
Whatif I'm dumb in school?
Whatif they've closed the swimming pool?
Whatif I get beat up?
Whatif there's poison in my cup?
Whatif I start to cry?
Whatif I get sick and die?
Whatif I flunk that test?
Whatif green hair grows on my chest?
Whatif nobody likes me?
Whatif a bolt of lightning strikes me?
Whatif I don't grow talle?
Whatif my head starts getting smaller?
Whatif the fish won't bite?
Whatif the wind tears up my kite?
Whatif they start a war?
Whatif my parents get divorced?
Whatif the bus is late?
Whatif my teeth don't grow in straight?
Whatif I tear my pants?
Whatif I never learn to dance?
Everything seems well, and then
the nighttime Whatifs strike again!

Chromophobia

Update 7 November:  here is the final, although there is always more that can be done.

This is a sketch I'm doing for a project in my illustration class.  We got to choose a phobia and illustrate it in a creative way.  It's due on Thursday, so I should have the finished one up soon.  I chose Alice from Alice in Wonderland.  She is dressed in Goth clothes with a bucket of grey paint, painting the red roses Grey!

I haven't added the roses to this version yet, so more to come.  this angle was challenging but really fun.  Thanks to my wife for posing for me.
the one I tried from my head didn't work as well.

here is the earlier concept version.  she will be standing in the midst of the roses this time.  Looking at them side by side, I realize now how much I really really needed a reference!
